Are you stuck with an error with this website and need help?

Butlin's Memorabilia is designed by me (Mark Banks) during my personal time in an effort to help you smile and spark that important memory. Every now and then, the website is going to misbehave and have an issue, causing you to not be able to see what is being presented to you. I know this can be a pain as you try to work out how to solve the problem and causes frustration.

The location where a website is based can run into situations where it's having a bad day meaning that there is not much the owner of the site can do to solve it. However, there are other moments where an update or upload has gone wrong causing the display to not work well. 

Below are situations that I have come across and methods on how to solve them, helping you get back online with the site. If there is an error that you have and it's not listed, please get in touch with me by clicking on these words

The 404 Page Error

There are several reasons why a page 404 error appears on the website;

  • The page that you are trying to load is no longer on the server. When the request is made, the service tells you that the link is invalid and not found. 
  • The page that you are trying to access has a technical issue on the server. This could be related to downtime from the hoster or many other issues. 
  • Another issue is related to the owner of the website not uploading the correct page to the server for this to work. As there is no page being uploaded, the direct link will fail until it's fixed.

How to fix this error

As the error is on the website, there will be no need for you to adjust your pc or device. The issue can only be solved by the website owner. In my case, if this was to become an issue, I would suggest these options

1. The website has just been updated and the files are currently being uploaded. Give it a couple of minutes and refresh the page. 

2. If the error remains for longer than five minutes,  please get in touch with me by clicking on these words

404 Page Error

This is a pain in the neck when it happens to the website and I am unsure why it does this. Every time I do a new update, the menu will either go to the bottom or do this black screen. Unfortunately, the problem is related to the browser you may have caching on the page, meaning that it's trying to display the old layout but can't find it causing this issue to appear.  This error does not appear a great deal. 

How to fix this error
Yes, it's an easy fix. You need to clear your history on your device and refresh your page. This will update the browser to the new layout. Most times, this error is fixed in about ten minutes or so however, clearing your history is the easiest option.

There is a fix for this, just follow what is below and choose which one relates to your device.

404 Page Error

When this page appears, there is only one person who is in error and that is me. What causes this error?

  • This screen shows you the files and folders on the server, which is used for you to get around. When it displays this page, it means that the upload has been unsuccessful and it can not display the items it needs to present the page to you.
  • Or it can also be shown to you as the website in the process of being updated. 

How to fix this error

It's not your device! Please give it a couple of minutes and refresh the page.

Who and What is Butlin's Memorabilia Website

Mark Banks owns and created this website to show his collection of Butlin's memorabilia items. It was created during my spare time at work and is a hobby of mine and has since grown into a site that offers a chance for others to smile. This website is NOT the official website for Butlin's and is NOT the official archive of Butlin's at any stage. The website has expanded to show stories, with permission from that person, of a moment in Butlin's from people who are either a customer or former staff. This website is in loving memory of all that had come to this amazing company and to Sir William Butlin, the founder.  This website also has information about research regarding Butlin's history with information obtained from the research I made, which is not official.

The Untold Stories of Butlin's

The website has expanded to now include an area called "Untold Stories of Butlin's". These stories have been added to the site by a member of my group who has shared their moment at Butlin's. These stories are not from the official company and are from the person it represent, as shown on the page. The stories shared are from that person's memory and show the magic of Butlin's on how it creates that special moment. 

If you are not official, who is Mark?

Butlin's Memorabilia is NOT the official website for Butlins. This site is also NOT the official website for the archive of Butlin's. The owners of Butlin's, Butlin's company, and Butlins.com have NOT approached me to design this site. They have no involvement with the development of the website or with the information that is shown. I am extremely thankful that they allow me to continue showing you their company's rich history.
