This smashing photo shows the iconic monorail train passing the flumes of Sunsplash swimming pool with the entertainers on the top right-hand side. The bottom left had side is the outside swimming pool. The photo of the Monorail train was taken when the funfair was still within the camp. If you were to take these photos in 2023, you would see the Wessex building being revamped within to the new Playxperience due to open in 2024, a stage with entertainers on the top right-hand side and just a floor in the pavilion on the bottom right. The logo for Somerwest World would show Butlin's logo.

A smashing photo showing the chapel of Butlins on the left-hand side with the single-decker chalets on the right-hand side. This postcard would open change with flowers in 2023. The chapel shown is the second location for Butlins Minehead as the original one was in the Prince building, which currently hosts both Reds and Centre Stage.

The flumes of Butlin's Sunsplash swimming pool and what a beautiful photo this is. The yellow one was for those who wished to have a nice ride to the bottom without any dips or surprises. The Blue one was the rapid as you would start with a dip and off you went. It would be very fast as you rushed down the tube. The last one was the Red one which was also known as the Blackhole. The flume would be dark with small white holes as you travelled down to the bottom. As of 2023, if you stood here and took the same photo, you would only see the sky.

The outside fun pool shows the iconic Monorail train with the Prince's building. This was also the location of the outside heated swimming pool, as shown in previous years on this website. Sadly, in 1998, the pool was filled in to make way for the Pavilion that was going to be installed in 1999 with the new plans the owners at the time had, the Rank organisation. Today (as of 2023), you would see the pavilion stage, Bar Russo, Costa coffee and the toilets.

Another fantastic photo of the iconic monorail train passing by the Sunsplash stairway and flumes. The two photos on the right-hand side show you the flumes within the Sunsplash swimming pool. The photo showing the Monorail train is showing the front when the large lake was still there before the funfair was relocated. Today (as of 2023), if you took these photos, you would see the funfair with the Wessex building being redeveloped into the Playxperience, the inside of Sunsplash demolished and being redeveloped and the sky at the bottom photo.

The outside swimming fun pool, with much to do for those who wish to enjoy the outside fun. The iconic Monorail train would be passing by showing off the beauty of Butlin's Somerwest World. The background it the gaiety theatre building with the Prince building to the left-hand side. Today (as of 2023), you would see the rear of the pavilion stage. However, going around this, to the left-hand side is Bar Russo and Costa coffee. In front of you is the entrance of Hotshots and a selection of arcades.

The Oasis swimming pool was a new pool that was built on the camp that offered lane swimming and nothing like Sunsplash. The story that was told at the time is that it was built to help school children in Minehead and surrounding areas learn to swim with an agreement with the local council. This could only be done during selected times as it was also used for customers on holiday. Today (as of 2023), you will be surprised to know that this swimming pool still remains!. It's a part of the Splash pool that is currently on the resort. As you get changed and walk through to the pool, the first bit is the Oasis swimming pool. Look at the top left-hand corner, and take note of the roof and structure...now go swimming or via visitor and you will see it all remains there still! Also, in the bottom right-hand photo, look at the windows and go to the current pool and you will see they are there (well maybe not window now but the design remains in place). The visitor area where to wait for your loved ones, you are actually sitting in this swimming pool sitting area.

A multi-view postcard showing the wonderful Butlin's Somerwest World. On the top left-hand side is the Paratrooper, below that is the Mexican hat with the Sunslash flumes in the middle. On the right-hand side are Sunsplash and the cable cars. If you were to take these photos in today's Butlins (as of 2023), you would still see the ride on the top left-hand side. However, sadly you will see nothing but the floor on the bottom. In the middle would be just the sky with the same in the bottom right-hand side. The sunsplash pool is being demolished from within to make way for the new playxperience in 2024.

The top left-hand side shows a view from the cable cars (also known as chair lifts). You are looking above Greenacres chalets (now known as Holnicote Village) with North Hill showing off its pure beauty to all. The top right-hand side is the iconic monorail train with the stunning Sunsplash swimming pool. The bottom left-hand side is the stunning single deckers with the exit to the flumes in Sunsplash. The yellow one was for those who wanted a smooth ride to the bottom, fun and chilled. The blue one? A dip to start with as you would go at a faster pace to the bottom. Then it was onto the red once...the black hole. Travelling down this would see darkness with white holes with two dips within. If you look at the top right-hand side photo, you can see the first dip on the blue and the Red one.

Showing the inside of the Sunsplash swimming pool. The original location of the hated indoor swimming pool was redeveloped into Sunsplash for the Butlins Holiday Worlds era. I used to remember the sun coming through the top into the pool giving it that additional magic feeling. The pool was closed in 1999 and remained like this until 2023 when it was demolished to make way for the new Playxperience due to open in 2024.

The outdoor heated swimming pool was converted in the Holiday Worlds era to make this new Funpool. It remained in place until 1998 when it was filled in to make way for the plans for Butlins that the Rank Organisation had. A pavilion was installed at this location, meaning that if you took the same photo today (as of 2023), you will see the pavilion stage.

Showing you the funfair of Butlins and the iconic Butlins Monorail train over the outside swimming pool. This postcard shows you when the funfair was relocated to the front, ending its time within the camp. The front lake was reduced in size as the camp would proudly show off its collection of rides. Today (as of 2023), the funfair is still located at he front with it being changed into Sir Billy Butlin's fairground. The helter-skelter shown here is not the same as the one today. The outside swimming pool and Monorail train were removed with the pavilion stage now in its place.

This multi-view postcard shows the Windsor Building with Cracker jacks and the crazy golf on the top left-hand side with the outside stage on the bottom. The two on the right-hand side show the outside swimming pool with the Monorail train. Today (as of 2023), you would not see the Windsor or Cracker Jacks building as they were both demolished, the Crazy Golf remains with a major upgrade. The outside stage would be Burger king within the pavilion with the outside swimming pool and Monorail train removed with the Pavilion stage being shown.

The best way to explain this photo is to click on these words and read my story of why this is so very important to me. Today (as of 2023), you will see that this entrance remains with the Funfair in the background without the Sunsplash stairway. The fencing shown has also changed with most of it now removed.

Showing you the Dino's cafe within the Mall. The cable car and the outside stage with horse and cart near the Gaiety Green. Today (as of 2023), the mall is still there with a large change in decorations. Where Dino's is in this photo is now the Fish and Chips. The cable cars have gone as well has the outside stage and Monorail train. The Gaiety Green remains in place.

The Helter Skelter, which is a Butlins tradition. The one on Butlins Minehead is not the same one that you see today. The owners at the time, Bourne Leisure Limited, had invested in the Butlins Bognor Regis pool and installed a slide that matches the Helter Skelter.

Showing the chapel/church of Butlins Minehead with the lake behind the Highway Man pub. The single-decker chalets were upgraded to Premier in Greenacres and Redwood. They still remain to this very date and are known as the Deluxe Suites. The locations have also changed, Greenacres is now known as Holnicote Village and Redwood is known as Surfers Point.

An excellent postcard showing the cable cars in the top left hand side. Next to this is the Mall with the Helter Skelter in the bottom right hand side. The photo in the bottom left hand side is showing the Monorail train passing the Crazy Horse Saloon and Green baize. The cable cars and Monorail train are no longer in Butlins Minehead. The mall remains in place connection the pavilion to the chalet areas and the Inn on the Green. The Wessex building remains however the internal is being reveloped into the new playxperience.
