Using Google Maps or Google Earth, we can see Butlin's Minehead over the years. Below are photos from Google Earth showing you a lot of details of the former campsite and giving you a great insight into the former Butlins camp.
Each photo has a copyright credit under each one. This is done in accordance with the rules specified at this link. I am thankful to be able to show these screenshots, which were taken using Google Earth (click on these words to see more) for historic education.
View the second photo to see what areas have had the most changes.
1. The gokart/office/first aid building, 2. The main lake, 3. Beachcomber Building, 4. Cracker Jacks, 5. Quazer building, 6. Single deckers, 7. Launderette building, 8. Quantocks, 9. Staff Accommodation, 10. tents and camping, 11. Second rear lake.
The rear second lake is no longer in Butlins Minehead by 2006 and is filled in (number 11). Also, note that the tents and camping (number 10) area is no longer in Butlins Minehead. The Beachcomber building has been demolished (number 3) and the lake has been reduced in size (number 2) with the Blue Skies starting to be built. Some of the staff accommodation (number 10) has also been demolished.
The Blue Skies is now built (number 2) with the former Beachcomber building (number 3) now being given fresh grass. The Quazer building has also been demolished (number 3). Cracker Jacks (number 4) has been demolished.
There have been some large changes in the last eight years, here is a list of what has changed (referring to the above photo with the numbers on). The first aid, go-karts and office building has been demolished and replaced with trees (number 1). The old launderette building has been demolished and replaced with a landscape (number 7). The single deckers (number 6) have been demolished to be replaced with the new chalet build (which includes taking some of the carpark way)
The old train platform and former staff accommodation have been demolished. There are plans to put a new caravan village in place of the former chalet for the staff members of Butlin's Minehead.
Studio 36 is built in the former location of the Beachcomber building (number 3)
